SCUBA Pro Zoom Lite – lighter, innovative, but with important limitations
With the new Zoom Lite, ScubaPro introduces a further evolution of its best-selling dual-lens mask. Reduced weight, high comfort and a clever lens-exchange system make the mask very appealing at first glance. At the same time, there is one technical aspect you should clearly understand – especially if you dive with prescription lenses.
What’s new about the Zoom Lite?
The Zoom Lite retains almost all proven features of the classic ZOOM mask, but introduces a key change:
Instead of mineral glass, it uses polycarbonate lenses. This comes with clear advantages:
-
significantly reduced weight
-
high impact resistance
-
increased comfort, especially on longer dives
The lenses are also equipped with a replaceable, high-quality anti-fog film, helping to prevent fogging effectively. Visually, the mask is available in various solid-color frames and different skirt options, and features a Comfort Strap-compatible buckle design.
A major highlight remains the interchangeable lens system: lenses can be swapped in less than a minute, without tools, directly by the diver.
The crucial point: polycarbonate is not glass
This is where clarity matters – even if it’s not what everyone wants to hear:
Polycarbonate is a plastic material, not glass.
This has an important consequence:
👉 Polycarbonate lenses cannot be conventionally glazed with prescription lenses.
In optical manufacturing, corrective lenses are technically bonded mineral-to-mineral only. This method is proven, durable and reliable.
With plastic lenses, this standard process simply does not work.

What does this mean for prescription solutions?
At the moment, the situation is straightforward:
If you expect a Zoom Lite with custom prescription glazing, you should be cautious. Traditional optical glazing is currently not possible.
That said, this is not the end of the discussion. We are actively entering a research phase to evaluate whether polycarbonate lenses could, in the future, be fitted with prescription corrections using special UV-curing adhesives.
The focus is not on “whether it can be done somehow,” but on a much more important question:
Will the lenses hold permanently – and will they remain secure under pressure, temperature changes and long-term UV exposure?
Until this can be answered with confidence, anything else would be misleading.

-
⚠ alternative solutions are under investigation, not yet available

Conclusion

The Zoom Lite is an excellent mask – as long as you choose it with the right expectations.
Any future prescription solution will only come after thorough testing and proven long-term safety.
